Boxing – Morilla’s Sunday Report Card for Dec. 15

Keith Thurman

Neubrandenburg, Germany, Dec. 14

Juergen Braehmer UD 12 Marcus Oliveira, WBA light heavyweight title

Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO) is a talented southpaw fighter who had an uneven career, even in the protection of his native Germany, where he has fought almost exclusively. This time, he took on unbeaten but relatively raw Oliveira (25-1-1, 20 KO) and scored a solid decision to grab another pointless version of the same WBA title currently held by Beibut Shumenov. Aside from a few extra competitive middle rounds and a late surge by the visiting challenger, Braehmer looked solid and ready for another championship run in a division that is brimming with talent.

The winner goes on to: A unification should be nice. A trip overseas would be desirable. A real challenge would be even better.
