Carmelo Anthony could hold the key to Chris Bosh’s future.

ESPN reports the Houston Rockets plan to aggressively chase Bosh as a plan B option if their overtures to land Anthony somehow don’t come to be. The website adds while the Rockets still hold out hope of being able to land the league’s No. 2 top scorer behind MVP Kevin Durant, they have already let the Dallas-born Bosh know if that pursuit falls short they are prepared to offer him top dollar to join an already-made core of Dwight Howard and James Harden.

With four-time league MVP LeBron James also rumored to be weighing his options, the possibility that Bosh might seek to leave the Big 3 Miami core of himself, James, and Dwyane Wade that has advanced to four straight NBA Finals and won two titles has increased by leaps and bounds in recent days.

While plenty of league observers continue to believe that Heat president Pat Riley will devise a plan to keep all three stars in a Heat uniform next season and beyond, even more league execs seem convinced the Rockets are intent on not making that reality an easy proposition, particularly if their play for Anthony does not come to materialize.

With the Rockets desperate to add a perimeter threat to their attack, the veteran Bosh is widely considered a perfect spot-up compliment to their inside-outside tandem of Howard and Harden.

The Rockets recently traded veteran center Omer Asik to New Orleans to clear salary cap space to add other parts and are also rumored to be shopping guard Jeremy Lin for the same reason.

An 11-year veteran, Bosh has averaged 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists over his career. His best season came with Toronto in 2009-10, when he averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.
