NFL Trade Machine: Perfect Matches For Rams, Giants, Cowboys

Michael Vick

Trades are not as prevalent in the NFL as they are in the likes of MLB or NBA. But playing the hypothetical and always entertaining “trade machine” game with NFL, there are some deals that need to happen.

We caution: they are not very realistic … just yet.

The St. Louis Rams need a capable quarterback. The New York Giants need a tight end. And please, can the Dallas Cowboys find a healthy linebacker.

Here are some of the perfect trades that we believe should happen, and sooner rather than later:

Rams trade for Michael Vick

Geno Smith is solidifying himself as the Jets’ quarterback of both the present and the future. He isn’t Peyton Manning, but he does enough to win games and not lose them. The Rams are down to an injured Shaun Hill and healthy Austin Davis, and combined barely have the makings of an average starting quarterback.

Michael Vick says he’s content as Smith’s backup, but also caveats that by saying he’s still a quality NFL starter. Let him prove it with deep threats such as Kenny Britt and Tavon Austin in St. Louis, who have underachieved with the aforementioned Davis and Hill under center. Vick hurts the Rams’ chances of securing that No. 1 pick but it allows the team an attempt to return to competitiveness.

Giants trade for Ladarius Green

For some reason, the Chargers continue to trot out of the ageless Antonio Gates ahead of the very promising Ladarius Green. While Gates and Philip Rivers have a decade of chemistry under their belts, Green is by far the superior athlete in today’s NFL.

The Giants are relying on Larry Donnell and Adrien Robinson at tight end, which is far and away the weakest link of this team. In fact, the Giants probably are the worst off at this position in the entire league.

Give them Green; they’ll appreciate him, especially as Ben McAdoo tries to figure out how to help Eli Manning succeed in his West Coast offense. Green can help with underneath routes as well as stretch the field.

Cowboys trade for Arthur Brown

Reports indicate former Ravens second-round draft pick Arthur Jones is on the block, as the team has 2014 first-rounder C.J. Mosley and Daryl Smith entrenched as starting inside linebackers. The Cowboys defense proved to be without a hope against San Francisco in Week 1, and could benefit from a potential-laden prospect like Jones.

Sean Lee is sidelined for the year, and now the defense is relying on twice-retired Rolando McClain to be the heart and soul of the unit. Let Jones come in and get his chance, and eventually team up with Lee as they build toward the future.
