2-QB Waiver Wire Future Planning: Week 13

Ryan Fitzpatrick

The theme of this week’s 2-QB waiver wire future planning article is “what’s old is new again!” Almost all of the quarterbacks listed below have either started a game this season or have made a relief appearance.

The quarterback position has been a revolving door this season, with 48 different quarterbacks making at least one start. That can be a lot to take in for 2-QBers, but it does make for some interesting roster turnover. Especially if you’ve been streaming the QB2 position weekly.

Below are a few names to target on the waiver wire of your 2-QB league…

Ryan Fitzpatrick

With Ryan Mallett out for the season with torn pectoral muscles, the starting quarterback gig in Houston will once again belong to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Most likely. Nothing official has been said by the team, but trusted Texans beat writer John McClain believes FitzMagic will get his job back.

On the season, Fitzpatrick did have three games of 18+ fantasy points so he has some appeal as a QB2 streamer for those in desperate need of a quarterback.

You should also keep an eye on rookie Tom Savage as well, but it was reported he won’t be making an appearance on the field unless the Texans are eliminated from the playoffs.

*Remaining teams to face: TEN, JAC, IND, BAL, JAC

Colt McCoy

Glancing at the stats in this Sportable card on Robert Griffin III shows you how bad his Week 12 performance vs. the 49ers was. Head coach Jay Gruden doesn’t really seem to be all that interested in trotting out RG3 on the football field anymore, but he will be under center Week 13 to start the game vs. Indianapolis.

How long RG3 remains the starter in Washington remains to be seen though. When asked if a quarterback change was possible, Gruden replied: “At this time, right now, Robert’s my guy, right now.” That answer could change at any time, and if a change is made it’ll be a return to the Colt McCoy show.

We might even see Gruden himself take on the dual role of quarterback/coach. Anything is possible at this point in Washington.

*Remaining teams to face: IND, STL, NYG, PHI, DAL

Geno Smith

Michael Vick was benched on Monday night vs. the Bills after going 7-of-19 for 76 yards and one interception. He also took five sacks. The Jets lost 38-3.

Even with such a bad loss it looks like Rex Ryan is sticking with Vick at quarterback. Geno Smith was okay in mop up duty, completing 10-of-12 passes for 89 yards, but it seems his chance to start has passed him by.

Even so, stashing him on your bench isn’t the worst idea, as Vick could get benched at some point. You might also want to keep an eye on Matt Simms.

*Remaining teams to face: MIA, MIN, TEN, NE, MIA

**Other names to remember: Johnny Manziel and Derek Anderson.
