XN Sports Heisman Watch: Todd Gurley Runs to Top of the List

Todd Gurley has overtaken football’s top quarterbacks and is solidly in the lead in the XN Sports Heisman watch.

Todd Gurley

It took just one week for the XN Heisman watch to establish the dreaded XN Heisman watch jinx.

Marcus Mariota and Oregon lose at home as a 24-point favorite on Thursday night. BYU QB and XN Darkhorse candidate Taysom Hill breaks his leg in a loss to Utah State on Friday night and it doesn’t end there. Texas A&M QB Kenny Hill and the Aggies lose at Mississippi State and Hill throws three picks, Nebraska RB Ameer Abdullah gets completely bottled up (22 carries for 45 yards) in a 27-22 loss at Michigan State that should never have been that close, and Baylor QB Bryce Petty has a dismal showing in a 28-7 win over Texas.

The second week of the watch will be a good test to see if the jinx is real or just a one-week byproduct of a Saturday full of upsets and games between top-25 teams. Auburn at Mississippi State is the marquee game of the week and not only features two of the top three teams in the country but two of the top Heisman contenders of the moment in QBs Nick Marshall and Dak Prescott.

XN Sports will take a look each week at who is in the Heisman running, who is knocking on the door and who is under the radar but deserves a long look.

Here we go.
